Since its launch in 2022, the initiative has dedicated itself to discovering and empowering the next generation of film talent. It aims to not only highlight the potential of young directors but also provide them with the resources and support they need to bring their visions to life and make their mark in the film and television industry.

Laura King is a Chinese-Canadian, queer cinematographer and director based in Toronto. She is drawn to character-driven stories that amplify marginalized voices. Across narrative, documentary, and music video platforms, her work is defined by a distinct visual language for each project, rooted in emotional storytelling and intentional imagery.She studied film at Sheridan College, where she received the Canadian Society of Cinematographers Award for Best Student Cinematography for Desync. Her films have screened at festivals including SCAD Savannah Film Fest, NFFTY, TIFF Next Wave, Inside Out, and Canadian Film Fest.
